Move over kale salad and vegan recipes! There’s a new health trend dominating our daily diets: smoothies & acai bowls. And to clarify, it’s pronounced AH-SAI-EE. Ever since I arrived at NYU, I’ve been obsessed with smoothies. I used to think the Jamba Juice blends in Upstein were decent, but nothing can compare to the special treats served at these few spots. Read on for some awesome recommendations on your next smoothie indulgence!
1. Liquiteria
Address: 145 4th Avenue
I think this one is pretty much a no-brainer. With a prime location between Union Square and Palladium’s back entrance, Liquiteria offers various tasty smoothie blends and bowls for $11 or less. I may or may not be a bit obsessed with their Peanut Butter Acai bowl. As for smoothies, I’d definitely recommend the Berry Powerful for fruity lovers and the Bulldozer for an extra sweet kick. Whether you’re in a rush for your 9:30 lecture or craving a snack post-workout a Palladium, check out Liquiteria for some healthy, filling options. Download the Liquiteria App today and you’ll receive a $5 credit toward your next purchase!
2. Pure Green
Address: 60 E 8th Street
Pure Green is located right outside the N/R Subway Station on 8th Street, perfect walking distance if you prefer to stay on campus during your break in between classes. The selection is basically a knock-off of Liquiteria, but I must say that their Mixed Berry Acai was pretty solid. If you’re looking for a more quiet, chill place to spend your lunch break, this is definitely the spot. Make sure to try their signature Pure Green smoothie, and I’d definitely recommend the Mocha Cold Brew smoothie for you coffee-lovers.
3. Juice Press
Address: 201 E 10th Street (East Village) OR 156 Prince Street (Soho)
I think the image above of the Almond Butter Smoothie Bowl speaks for itself. Although they specialize mainly in cold-pressed juices, Juice Press still offers an assortment of tasty smoothies. Whether you’re spending the day shopping in Soho or walking back from Bobst to your apartment on 2nd Avenue, definitely stop by Juice Press for the Fountain of Youth blend or the Clean Green Protein Smoothie. As a smoothie addict myself, I must say that I was impressed with this place!
4. Noho Juice Bar
Address: 208 Mercer Street
Noho Juice Bar is a hidden gem you probably haven’t realized exists, even though it is right by campus. Not only do they have yummy smoothies, they also have a wide selection of Deli sandwiches and lunch specials. What’s so special about these smoothies? Their prices! A typical medium smoothie is only $4.50 and a large is $5.50! So next time you’re not in the mood to use a meal swipe on your usual Kimmel lunch, check out Noho Juice Bar for some delicious, cheap options.
5. Be Juice
Address: 121 University Place
Located on University and 13th Street, Be Juice is the ideal spot for an on-the-go smoothie run. They’re known for their exotic use of ingredients such as pears, dates, coconut and agave. If you’re looking for a more personalized style of smoothies, this is definitely the spot. You can select up to 5 ingredients for a $6.99 16 oz smoothie. Or if you’re willing to try the more traditional blends, I suggest trying the Basic Plus for the essential berry taste or the Tropical Permit for a unique flavor.
