The presidential race is becoming more like a soap opera than a political campaign, following a story published in the National Enquirer that claims Sen. Ted Cruz was involved in multiple affairs.
The article, published March 23, alleges that the senator had five affairs. Cruz maintains that the rumors are false, and calls them “garbage.”
Fingers were originally pointed at Donald Trump, who had threatened to “spill the beans” on Heidi Cruz earlier this week, following an attack ad on his wife Melania Trump. However, Trump says that he did not spark the rumors.
“Ted Cruz’s problem with the National Enquirer is his and his alone, and while they were right about O.J. Simpson, John Edwards, and many others, I certainly hope they are not right about Lyin’ Ted Cruz,” said the outspoken businessman.
Instead, Marco Rubio supporters are being held responsible for peddling the story. The Rubio allies who are suspected of presented the rumors do not have an official connection with Rubio’s campaign.
It is alleged that anti-Cruz advocates have been pushing the #CruzSexScandal stories for six months. They presented the report to The New York Times, The Washington Post, Bloomberg News, Politico, and ABC News, who all rejected it based on a lack of factual evidence.
Breitbart News was also one of the sources presented with the scandal. They say that a pro-Rubio supporter approached them, but they decided not to report on the claims.
