How To Hide The Fact That You’re A Hot Mess (With Links)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Framingham chapter.

Fake it till you make it might not apply to you because face it you’re a hot mess, you always have been and you always will be, but now that you’re an “adult” it’s becoming necessary to hide your true form and act like a functioning member of society. Sounds complicated? Its ok we’ve got you covered.

Step 1. Wear clean clothes

Yes, wearing clean clothes implies you eventually have to wash your clothes, if it helps try making every Tuesday (or another day of the week) laundry day the consistency may help, and wearing the same bra three days in a row always seems like a good idea at the time but never is. (Also maybe learn how to do laundry.)

Step 2. Dress to impress

Ok maybe that’s a tad unrealistic, at least try to dress weather appropriately and maybe somewhat normal.

Step 3. Don’t skip breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. As much as it pains me to say this, a half-eaten candy bar you found in your bag does not count as breakfast. I’m not saying you have to give up poptarts but consider adding in a piece of fruit.

Step 4. Brush your teeth at least two times a day

This may seem obvious to those who have not yet reached this level of hot messiness but trust me some people forget. Sugar free gum is good in a pinch but should not be an everyday substitute.

(If our lord and savior Zayn Malik does it so should you.)

Step 5. Show up early

Let’s face it you think about it being on time technically means showing up less than 15 minutes late. If you come late you draw more attention to yourself and hot messiness, but showing up early or at least on time minimalizes judging stares.

Step 6. Go to the gym

Maybe. Probably not. Exercise is an important part of health. Try taking the stairs more often, or just try to nap less

Step 7. Nap less

You nap way more than a normal person does. Like waaaaay more. You should nap less and preoccupy your time with more important things like dealing with your responsibilities or looking up fetus one direction videos.

Step 8. Deal with your responsibilities

Do some homework. Water that plant that’s probably dead by now… or not hey, who are we to judge

Step 9. Clean your face

At least take your make-up off every night. It’s bad for your face and who needs acne when you have a million other things to not deal with.

Step 10. Don’t unload all your baggage to the first person to ask how you are or how is your day going

They just want you to say good, refrain from actually telling them how much of a hot mess you are. Save that for social media (or Tumblr).

Step 11. Talk to someone

Go to the counseling center. Or talk to a faculty or staff member your trust. Maybe even your best friend. But being social and getting thigs out in the open is an important part seeming like less of a hot mess.

Good luck out there and remember! Your keys, wallet, phone, etc…
