Once a year the CMU International Film Festival comes to bring cultural exchange and expression from around the world to our backyard. This year the festivities start on Thursday night at 7pm with A War from Denmark. Â If an investigation into the Afghanistan conflicts is not your style though, no worries. The festival theme of conflict this year truly has something for everyone.

The film showing on Friday night, for example, is of particular interest to us here at Her Campus. Dreamcatcher is a film about human trafficking here in America, whose victims are mainly women. An inspiring documentary, the powerful story is the only movie I have ever seen with a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.Â
Other eye-catching stories include Requiem for the American Dream, Taj Mahal, and The Propaganda Game. All three of these movies were deeply moving for me, with the last of these movies forcing me to question my perspectives on the North Korean conflict and media outlets as a whole. But don’t just take my word for it, check out the full list of movies here. Tickets are only $5 for students and $10 for adults. Full passes for all film showings over the next two weeks are also available.

It is our duty as college students to explore our interests, take advantage of great opportunities around campus, and question our beliefs. The CMU International Film Festival is a rare way to do all three, and I can’t wait to see my fellow Pitt students there.
