The Start of Something New: High School Musical 4 Coming to the Big Screen

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Winthrop chapter.

8 years later, and we’re still all in this together!

Just a few short months after the franchise celebrated its 10th anniversary, it was announced that High School Musical 4 is officially happening and that the fourth film will be coming out in the near future.

Unfortunately, the original cast will not be starring in this film but it appears that there is going to be excited new Wildcats ready to hit the big screen.

HSM 4 will be about the East High Wildcats and their rivals the West High Knights. Director and choreographer Jeffrey Hornaday is searching for the perfect cast for the fourth installment.

Hornaday will also be working with the screenwriters from the first three films Dan Berendsen and Peter Barsocchini.

The executive producers of the film will be Bill Borden and Barry Rosenbush.

Casting directors are Jason La Padura, Natalie Hart and Kendra Patterson. They have reportedly just started looking for the next generation Wildcats.

Some people are questioning why Disney has decided to continue with the franchise. I question it because the last film was the original crew graduating. What do they hope to achieve by bringing it back?

Disney Channel President Gary Marsh said, “High School Musical is part of Disney Channel’s DNA. It embodies all that we stand for.”

We are all crossing our fingers that some of the original crew will make cameo appearances in the new movie. Sharpay and Ryan’s cousin is reportedly one of the new Wildcats so with any luck, the fabulous twins will come back to East High to support their cousin.

There’s a lot riding on the new generation High School Musical. 8 years after the franchise ended, the pressure is on to make it just as successful as the original.

So, good luck to everyone involved in making this film. Stick together and stay honest to the roots of this franchise.

It’s a great start to something new!
