10 Movies to Watch in Honor of Leonardo DiCaprio’s Oscar Win

As you may know, Leonardo DiCaprio finally won an Oscar award for his role in The Revenant. What you may not know about are all the other movies he has been nominated for over the years. If you’re looking to binge watch some movies with your favorite leading man in them this weekend, try some of these suggestions. They vary in genre, but Leo’s excellence remains the same.

1. The Revenant

Plot: A frontiersman struggles along a brutal journey and fur trading expedition after being mauled by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team.

2. The Wolf of Wall Street

Plot: Based on the true story of Jordan Belfort, we see the rise and fall of a stock broker who goes from scraping by and selling penny stocks with his high school sweetheart to becoming exceedingly wealthy with a whole new wife. Unfortunately success, when paired with corruption, can only last so long, and so his battle and eventual downfall with the federal government is chronicled.

Plot: Many individuals fight over the possession of a priceless diamond. A syndicate of businessmen, a fisherman, and a smuggler are amongst the group that vie for the prize.

4. What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?

Plot: Gilbert navigates family life with his brother, Arnie, and his obese mother while growing up and figuring out his own identity. He unexpectedly falls in love along the way and must figure out how to balance his relationships.

5. The Aviator

Plot: A biopic depicting the early life of legendary director and aviator Howard Hughes from the late 1920’s to the mid 1940’s. The movie opens with Hughes directing one of Martin Scorsese’s favorite films, Hell’s Angels and obsessing over aerial details such as the cloud formations.

6. Titanic

Plot: A fictional account of the sinking of the RMS Titanic with two young teens aboard the ship from different social classes who fall in love and must navigate the perils that are to come.

7. Romeo + Juliet

Plot: An adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet with the original Shakespearean dialogue, but set in modern times in the fictional Verona Beach. The Montagues and the Capulets are represented as warring mafia empires with guns and the love affair between the two young teens of these families we all know and love ensues with some modern updates.

8. Shutter Island

Plot: U.S. Marshal Edward Daniels and his partner Chuck Aule investigate a psychiatric facility on Shutter Island where a murderess was believed to have disappeared from. They are soon trapped on the island by a storm and scary things begin to occur.

9. Inception

Plot: A thief steals corporate secrets through use of a dream-sharing technology and is then given the inverse task of planting an idea into the mind of a CEO. The mission is to break up the energy conglomerate of their client’s ailing competitor Maurice Fischer by influencing Fischer’s son and heir to dissolve his father’s company.

Genre: Sci-fi, Action, Mystery, Thriller

10. The Great Gatsby

Plot: Based on the novel of the same name, the film follows Nick Carraway as he enters the West Egg neighborhood of New York and watches the destructive and beautiful love affair unravel between his cousin, Daisy and Jay Gatsby. No one seems to know his story but Daisy herself who would not marry him as a soldier. He has now built himself into the man he hopes she would want him to be. The drama that ensues because of this is of legendary proportions. A little party never killed nobody, but a dangerous love affair just might.
