5 Acts You Need To Listen To Pre-Coachella

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapman chapter.

Coachella is rapidly approaching. That means two weekends of great music, camping in close quarters and overly priced food and drink.

The music at Coachella never disappoints but the line-up for 2016 is especially great. All you attendees are going to have some difficult decisions to make. Which artists are you going to go see? Of course, you’re probably going to make time for the bolded acts on the line-up like Calvin Harris and Guns N’ Roses… but what about the artists at the bottom of the list?

I’ve put together a list of five lesser-known artists that are definitely worth listening to. Come April, you’ll be in the front row jamming out to these talented musicians. Even if you aren’t going to Coachella, you should have these artists on your radar and in your spotify playlist.

1.     Years & Years

This British trio is known for their electropop style. Their upbeat and most popular single, “King”, reached number 1 on the UK charts. These cuties will be performing it live and other songs off their album Communion at Coachella, and you should be there!

2.     Alessia Cara

You definitely know this 19-year-old’s hit, “Here”, since it’s currently playing on every radio station. This talented Canadian started her career singing YouTube covers and now is signed to EP Entertainment and Def Jam Recordings. If you like “Here”, be sure to learn the lyrics to her new hit, “Wild Things” and then go sing them both at the top of your lungs.

3.     The Front Bottoms

This quirky-named indie band hails from New Jersey and is known for putting on high-energy concerts. Their danceable and fun music won’t let you down when you see them on the Coachella stage.

4.     Courtney Barnett

Courtney is an Australian indie/rock singer-songwriter-guitarist. You’ll want to memorize all of her humorous and quirky lyrics before Coachella. Her style of occasionally sing-speaking is pretty irresistible. Do yourself a favor and play her album during your next study break.

5.  Zella Day

My personal favorite, this “Hypnotic” singer-songwriter from Arizona has tons of catchy songs that will get you hooked.  Her vocals can only be described as dreamy and magical. Go see her at Coachella and get your desert vibes on. P.S. Listen to “East Of Eden” cause it’s my favorite.

The roster for Coachella 2016 is packed with talent but if you can make room in your schedule for at least one of these five acts, you won’t be disappointed!
