Great Places to Eat in San Diego

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SDSU chapter.

Entering college, everyone knows that dining hall food comes with a bad reputation. It’s not that the food is bad, but having to eat the same thing for a year can get pretty tiring. Try these restaurants around San Diego to explore your taste buds and city.

1. Nico’s

First up on our list is Nico’s in Ocean Beach. San Diego is known for its California burritos but did you know the second best one voted in America was Nico’s? Get away from midterms and try this delicious burrito!

2. Tacos El Gordo

Another must try Mexican place is Tacos El Gordo. There are multiple locations in San Diego so this restaurant is easily accessible. This place is as close as you’re going to get to authentic Mexican food.

3. The Donut Bar

If you have a sweet tooth and find yourself wanting to try something different come to Donut Bar in Downtown. The Donut Bar is a family friendly restaurant and even gives away free donuts to kids. This place is also great for college kids on a budget who want to try uniquely flavored donuts. They have all different kinds of donuts ranging from red velvet to maple bacon to Twix donuts.

4. Hodad’s

You may have heard of Hodad’s before because it’s been featured on the show Driver’s, Dine-ins, and Dives and happens to be one of Guy Fieri’s favorite restaurants. This burger joint has to be checked out if you’re looking for new places to try. Not only do they have delicious burgers but the milk shakes are out of this world.

5. Hammond’s Gourmet Ice Cream

There’s flights of beers but have you ever heard of a flight of ice cream? Hammond’s offers a variety of different flavors and you don’t have to be confined to one flavor.

6. Cody’s

It’s Saturday morning and you’re craving breakfast food but Denny’s just isn’t cutting it. Grab your friends so you can head over to Cody’s in La Jolla and have breakfast with a view. Cody’s has a cozy atmosphere with a white picket fence around it and offers great food for brunch.

7. Sushi Freak
