Â
This year so many incredible designers showcased their latest Autumn/Winter collections in New York. Brands such as Alexander Wang, Self Portrait, Jill Stuart, Monique Lhuillier, Derek Lam, Tory Burch, Rag and Bone, Michael Kors, and Rachel Zoe all graced the catwalk, and the list goes on and on and on. Next season will be full of prints, checks, stripes, lace, sequins and prominent colours will be navy, burgundy, khaki and of course, black. Here are our favourite catwalk shows from New York Fashion Week AW16/17.
Jason Wu
Jason Wu’s autumn/winter collection was full of fringe, florals and lace, while still remaining practical and wearable. The designs were mainly navy and black with an occasional bright yellow piece. Checks were also all over this runway, a recurring theme throughout New York Fashion Week this year.
Altuzarra
Altuzarra had some of the prettiest prints, and the most unique patterns you’ll see next season. Stripes, paisley and floral patterns all featured, with a focus on navy and burgundy shades. There were a lot of cosy fur jackets, belts to cinch in the waist and knee high boots. Some of the long flowing skirts also featured embellishments, a key trend for next autumn. Â
Diane Von Furstenberg
This year Diane Von Furstenberg ditched the usual runway show for a more intimate “Fall 2016 Experience” in her headquarters, where guests were able to move around freely to look at the models. This unique show marked a turn for DvF as she branched out from her usual wrap dresses (but of course they still featured). Instead she focused on pretty patterns, slinky silk dresses, faux fur, and tweed skirts, all with a hint of the seventies.
Prabal Gurung
Prabal Gurung’s catwalk was feather obsessed. There were so many different variations of feather prints that were all equally beautiful. Embellishments, leather, fur and dresses with slits and cut-out shoulders were also key trends in this collection. White pieces featured on this catwalk, as well as shades of bright fuchsia, purple, navy and black. Â
Tommy Hilfiger
Tommy Hilfiger mixed girly floral prints with nautical pieces in his catwalk show this season. Of course, the main colours were white and navy throughout until a few sparkly brighter pieces closed the show. He also added a few stripes and bows into the mix with silky flowing printed dresses and structured sailor jackets.
Vera Wang
You can always count on Vera Wang for some monochrome. Her collection for Autumn/Winter included long skirts with bold belts and slits down the side, tailored coats, chiffon jumpsuits, oversized blazers, and a bit of khaki thrown in too. The second half of her collection featured oversized fur coats and long sequined and chiffon dresses.
Narcisco Rodriguez
The main look on Narcisco Rodriguez’s catwalk was asymmetrical dresses and skirts. Khaki, monochrome and deep browns dominated. We loved the solid blocks of colour featured in a lot of his pieces too. He also added some leather and sparkle to give his pieces an edge through texture.
DKNY
DKNY was full of boyish silhouettes with feminine twists. Baggy trousers were paired with lace blouses; formal pinstripe and checked trousers were paired with slogan t-shirts, and almost everything was oversized. The collection, full of black, white and red, was the ultimate casual compilation.
Marchesa
You probably won’t be seeing many Marchesa reproductions on the high street next season but the designs were so beautiful and intricate they needed to be included. Marchesa’s looks were truly regal. We’re hoping to see some of these gorgeous embellished dressed on some red carpets in the near future.
Marc Jacobs
Marc Jacobs designs were wacky and wonderful; think Gothic meets the future. Â Marc went for a mainly monochrome palette but by no means did that mean his pieces were basic or boring. The large skirts defied gravity, the boots had platforms too high to even imagine and he also added some lace, sequins and fur, just to enhance the dark dramatic outfits even further.
