The Associated Students of New Mexico State University is our campus’s student government, and while they provide various useful services for students, not many students know about them. Since every student pays a fee that goes toward the ASNMSU fund to help us with these services, the most plausible thing to do would be to utilize the services provided for us. Listed below, are a few of all the services offered by ASNMSU and how to use them.
Pete’s Pass
Pete’s Passes are one of the most important things provided to students. The pass is your key to all the wonderful things your student government provides, and they come at no cost. With a Pete’s Pass you can get discounts, free scantrons and free transportation both inside and outside the university. In order to obtain a Pete’s Pass, you can either go to the ID Services and ask for it or go to the ASNMSU office, which is located on the second floor of the Aggie Lounge.
There’s no need to waste your money on scantrons when you can grab your free scantron at the ASNMSU office. In order to obtain your scantron, you will need a Pete’s Pass. You can only get one scantron per visit, so either pick one up before an exam or stock up before mid-terms and finals.
Being a student has some great rewards like obtaining discounts for different stores. All you need to do is present your Pete’s Pass to any of the participating stores shared below. So, if you ever have a study crave or a you just want new hoodie from the bookstore to show your school spirit, be sure to utilize the discount program.
Keeping up with what is happening around the world is always important, and there is no better way to do it than from your computer or phone. ASNMSU offers complementary access to one of the most renown newspapers in the world, The New York Times, so you can always stay on top of what is going on around you.
If you don’t have a car and need to go to the Greyhound station to catch a bus, or you have a medical appointment, or even a job interview and none of your friends can give you ride, Crimson Coach is there to save the day. You can always call the Crimson Coach at 575-524-8299 and tell them you need a ride. You’ll just need to show them your Pete’s Pass. They also offer nightly safe rides for whenever you go partying and can’t drive back home.
Ever seen those buses driving around on Campus? Well, those are for students to ride to get them to class or back to their car. They come every 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the route, and go around the entire campus.
If you ever feel like going to Little Bit of Texas but just don’t feel like driving or just don’t have a car, Crimson Coach has your back. The Crimson Coach drives every Saturday from 7:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. to Little Bit of Texas in El Paso as well as local route on holidays and home games. You can find it in the Garcia Hall Parking lot and you’ll need to show either your Pete’s Pass or Student ID in order to utilize this service.
Walking back to your dorm or car late at night can not only be a hassle but can also be intimidating. Instead of having to brave the walk alone, you can use Pete’s Pick Up, which gives you a safe ride back to your dorm or car. You can call Pete’s Pick Up at 575-646-1111 Sunday to Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.. Be sure to have your Pete’s Pass on hand when calling this service.
ASNMSU offers many different services depending on your need. In addition to all the ones mentioned, there are also legal services, volunteer programs such as Keep State Great or The Big Event and various activities like Intramural Sports.
