Dear fellow students,
It has come to my attention that a handful of people have been offended by my latest article “Meet the Men of Frat Row”. As this article was done exactly two years ago, I wanted to show campus the new face of fraternity row since it has changed within time. I was not attempting to make anyone feel “left out” and the article’s title clearly stated, “Meet the Men of FRAT ROW” not ‘Meet the Men of WVU Greek Life.”
Coming into Greek life as a sophomore, I finally found my missing piece. With not only my sisters, other sorority women and fraternity men building me up when I was down; it has been through these people that I always have an ear to listen to me, and can forever count on to be around to be my friend and have a good time with. I am 100% in agreeance with Greek unity. As seen in many other schools, different houses try to compete with others… no matter where you are these houses while all Greek clearly have their differences and more. I believe WVU has done an amazing job to have us all come together as one and celebrate what we are really about.
That being said, I want to take this time to explain my rationale of just including fraternity row. As literally taking the old template, I wanted to show the old and new students the changes we have made. That is it. 100% completely it. Being friends with at LEAST one man in every fraternity, I appreciate every single one. I have gone to every single one, have had the pleasure to coach and play in philanthropies in every single one, and most important, found brothers that can protect me when I need it in every single one. I am sincerely sorry for not including the men in every fraternity in my last article, so here is something special for you all.
Thank you to Theta Chi – Thank you for always making my Thursday’s interesting to say the least.. hanging out with you all always means I’ll have a good time whether it’s downtown at whisper or sitting with you in the library. Thank you for becoming so close with my chapter in the past year. Thank you to all the brothers who are dating my Kappa sisters so loved. Thank you Timmy for always giving me a hug everywhere I see you.
Thank you Alpha Gamma Rho – Thank you for making a hog roast coming from something I would never attend to something I look forward to each year rain OR shine. Thank you for staying true to yourselves. Thank you for having the courage to break off and continuing for what you believe in.
Thank you to Sigma Alpha Mu – Thank you for always making my lower-classman years so fun at the house on Forrest Avenue all the way until now with the best view of the city. Thank you for always showing up with a SQUAD at philanthropies and killing it every single time. Thank you Ryder (even though you might not know me) for always being so sweet and making me my toasted Turkey stacker at Grab n Go almost every day.
Thank you to Sigma Phi Epsilon – Thank you for always making me feel so welcomed when I step through your doors. Thank you for always being so proud of who you are and for always taking me in with open arms. Thank you Kyle for making my g-little Kelsey feel like the luckiest girl on the planet.
Thank you to Phi Gamma Delta – Thank you for always giving me a place to go on Friday’s. Just knowing I can come hangout with you gentleman any time and have a good time is something that I will always cherish. Thank you for for the awesome views during Fall Fest! Every one knows you can see all of Morgantown from your spot up ontop of the mountain. Thank you for about to see me kick some butt in Fiji bowling (even though it’s going to be a sight for sore eyes). Thank you for always being an original house on campus with even cooler guys.
Thank you Sigma Alpha Epsilon – Thank you for taking me in all the way back as a little freshman. Thank you for hosting some of my favorite memories while being gentleman to say the least. Thank you Johnny, James, Shurman and more for always giving me bear hugs whether if it is in the Mountainlair or on High Street.
Thank you Sigma Nu – Thank you for wearing your letters SO proudly. Thank you for always shouting at me to come in the fence as I am walking past. Thank you Dustin, my campaign partner, for always making me want to dance to Sugar by Maroon 5. Thank you for wanting to take the time out of last evening to want to serenade me.
Thank you Phi Delta Theta – Thank you hosting the best Hayride I have ever been to – I didn’t even cry in the haunted house! Thank you for always having everyone with open arms at Richwood Avenue. Thank you Matt for taking me in like another sister.
Thank you Alpha Epsilon Phi – Thank you for taking something you believe in and holding it so high to yourselves. Thank you for always sending us goodies during the holidays – we love it! Thank you Jordan for becoming one of my best friends sophomore year until now – even though we aren’t in classes together 24/7 always wondering what is going on.
In conclusion, I love Greek life. I love everything it stands for, everything we do, and most importantly, everyone who is in it. I love each and every one of you – listed here and in the old article. You each bring unique qualities to the table that makes us whole. Not only I, but the entire campus at WVU, appreciates everything you do for us.
As a whole we should be trying to build each other up in everything we do, never tearing each other down. It is easy to try to “re-write” something I wrote in your own opinion but isn’t it just as easy to reach out and ask either myself or our team that every fraternity be added to that list? I am thankful for every opportunity Greek Life has led me to and thankful for everyone who has the courage to help me out and make me a better person along the way.
Thank you Greek Life and thank you to all of the “Men of Frat Row” past and present.
