One of our favorite parts about listening to music is finding a song that sings what we cannot say out loud. It’s the most amazing feeling to hear a song with lyrics that describe your situation perfectly, even if you take the words out of context just a little. So it may not be Thursday, but here are some throwback lyrics that know us all too well.
1) “My story is how I went from poor me to please pour me a drink and celebrate with me”
Nicki Minaj keeps us dreaming in “Only.”
2) “Grab a couple of friends and celebrate the weekend and act like Monday isn’t 48hrs away”
Lil Wayne virtually described our Monday –Friday mentality.
3) “Without a soul, my spirit’s sleeping somewhere cold”
Evanescence is definitely talking about the library in “Wake Me Up Inside.” Curled up somewhere on the fourth floor of RBD at 2 a.m. WAAAAAKKKKE ME UP INSIDE, or maybe just before class starts!
4) “And I ain’t too proud to tell ya that I cry sometimes, I cry sometimes, about it”
J. Cole remembers when he failed the journalism spelling test in “Lost Ones.” They say if you don’t have at least one mental break down per semester, you aren’t doing college right.
5) “I woke up like this”
More like “I rolled out of the bed like this — leggings, socks and yesterday’s body glitter. But Beyoncé, you’re still “Flawless.”
6) “But these places and these faces are getting old, so I’m going home” -Daughtry “Home”
You have all experienced those days when you are trying to can, but you just c a n ’t. Everybody and everything is getting on your nerves, so you just have to pack an overnight bag and make that trek home.
7) “I don’t need you, I don’t need you, I don’t need you. But I want you” -Jhene Aiko “The Worst”
What Miss Aiko didn’t tell you was that this was actually an ode to cupcakes, pizza and anything else that is screaming heart attack.
