Two teenage girls were shot and killed early Friday morning in what appeared to be a murder-suicide, according to ABC 15.
The shooting occured at Glendale’s Independence High School around 8 a.m., and caused the school to go on lockdown.
ABC 15 reported that the situation was contained, and not considered an “active shooter situation.” As a result, investigators are not actively searching for a potential shooter, and have no one in custody for the fatalities.
According to CNN, a suicide note was found near the bodies, and detectives believe the girls were in a relationship.
Independence High School is reeling after the tragedy, Azcentral.com reports. Both girls were well-liked, and one, identified as May Kieu, was the sister of a teacher at the school.
“They were both amazing people,” J.C. Robertson, a junior at Independence, told Azcentral.com. “I walked home crying my eyes out.”
“Our hearts and minds are with the families who lost their children today,” the principal of Independence wrote in a letter to parents. “We offer our deepest condolences. As an Independence community we will support the families and each other.”
