“This week’s sky is gray.
Ithaca: a top ten town
for the color blind.”
-Unknown
We Ithacans can all relate to this haiku about our cloudy town. Even though the weather has us down, and the start of the semester can get really busy, we have some great ideas that can help relieve a little stress and distract you until summer.
1. Get Outside!
By now, you’ve probably noticed the hills (at least your legs have). There are some amazing hiking trails nearby that are calling your name. A few of our favorites are Buttermilk Falls State Park, Taughannock Falls, Watkins Glen and Six-Mile Creek Trail. They provide the best sights of Ithaca and the fresh air will do some good for your sanity.
2. Ice Skating
Ice skating at Cass Park is a picture perfect way to get your energy out this winter. They have great prices for us broke college students and some pretty yummy hot chocolate. It’s a well-maintained semi-outdoor rink that’s an awesome spot for a date night or group outing.
3. Wine Tasting (21+)
For those of you looking to enjoy Valentine’s weekend either with a significant someone or some good friends, Varick Winery is having a “Sweet Sensation Weekend” Friday February 13th and Saturday February 14th from 9:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. There will be wine pairings with complimentary goodies, and we all know nothing goes better with wine than free food. Admission to this event is free and it’s only 4 dollars to taste six wines. What a deal!
4. A Little Drama
Looking for a little culture in your life? The Hangar Theatre presents “Henry V” during February 12-14, 19th, and 20th. All performances start at 7:30 p.m. except for the 14th, which starts at 4 p.m. Tickets range from 18-32 dollars, so it’s well worth it if you have a few extra bucks during that week. “Henry V” is the third production in a series put on by the Ithaca Shakespeare Company and is full of comedy, romance and battle.
