As soon as you walk into the Brown Ballroom, you are greeted by the sounds of students performing on stage, students handing out goodies, flyers, and more. You are at Winterfest 2016!
On Jan. 20, 2016, Winterfest, an annual event that is hosted by the Student Involvement and Activities center, brought hundreds of students to the Brown Ballroom in the Bone Student Center from 4 p.m – 7 p.m. With over 100 Registered Student Organizations, students with a variety of interest could find their perfect fit.
From beginning to end, performances were happening on stage to showcase the range of talents multiple RSOs have! Ranging from dances performances by POISE dance team, Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated, Red Elite, and many others, the energetic crowd was kept entertained at all times!
For some students, they were given the opportunity to table at Winterfest for the first time. Naekwon Hardman, sophomore, who is a member of College Experience, explains how exciting it is to meet new students and represent the organization. “Students were walking up to the table with wide-eyes, eager to know more about College Experience and what makes CE stand out. Students were asking about the type of events College Experience host and what different responsibilities are given to members. It was great to represent an organization that has opened many doors for me and introduced so many new people.”
Another memorable moment of Winterfest was the star attraction of the evening, and that was the life-size cutout of President Barack Obama! Students were flocking to the table that was helping students register to vote. Using this cutout, it was no problem to grab the attention of students.
Every year, Winterfest allows students to join organizations that are specific to their interest and goals. With over 100 organizations, students in these said organizations are always thrilled to meet new students and show the uniqueness of their RSO.
If you missed the RSO you were looking for at Winterfest, or Winterfest all together, do not worry! Check out updates from these organizations online and keep an eye out for flyers advertising on your walk to class!
