Her Campus Pays Tribute to Alan Rickman

On January 14, 2016, the world lost a great man, British actor Alan Rickman. He was notably known for his role in the “Harry Potter” saga, who portrayed Professor Severus Snape and was the head of the Slytherin House. Other films he is noted for is playing Hans Gruber in “Die Hard” and Harry in “Love Actually.” As the world mourned over his death, his Harry Potter costars paid tribute to him via social media and mentioning. Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint shared their memories of him from sharing his advice for the entertainment industry to the warm and kind-hearted man he was.

Around the world, fans had their own way of expressing their sorrow for the beloved actor. In London, the Platform 9 ¾ station was filled with flowers, photos, and letters thanking him for the work he has done in the film industry and bringing the character of Severus Snape to life. The most notable flower at the station was lilies, signifying the love Snape had for Harry’s mother, Lily Potter. In the Harry Potter World located at Orlando, Florida, fans put up their wands towards the Hogwarts castle in his honor.

The world was saddened to hear about the lost of acclaimed actor and director, Alan Rickman, who was best know as “Professor Severus Snape” from the renowned “Harry Potter” series.

In 1987, Rickman began on Broadway playing the role of “Vicomte de Valmont” in “Les Liaisons Dangereuses” where his performance landed him on the nomination ballet for a Tony Award. He first appeared on the big screen in 1988 in “Die Hard.” His career was filled with numerous roles in some of the best movies including “Sense and Sensibility,” “Truly, Madly, Deeply,” “Love Actually” and “Alice and Wonderland.” His last films, “Eye in the Sky” and “Alice Through the Looking Glass” will be released in theaters this year. 

Described by his “Harry Potter” co-star, Daniel Radcliffe, as “undoubtedly one of the greatest actors,” Rickman’s legacy will continue to touch our souls. Always.
