To the boy who led me on,

I don’t get it? For almost three years, you flirted with me, you looked at me like I was the only girl you ever laid eyes on, and you always got really excited to see me when we hung out. When we talked and texted each other, it never once got awkward.

After all of that, I finally worked up the courage to ask you out on a date and you rejected me.

You texted me to tell me that “You don’t know what’s going on that day and you’ll let me know what happens” and you never texted me back afterwards. You walked by me the next day and it’s as if you didn’t know me. You suddenly changed. A few days went by and my existence was nothing to you. You don’t know how much you hurt me. All those memories of us hanging out and flirting with each other, suddenly meant nothing.

Now I realize that I never got the opportunity to thank you.

Thank you for teaching me how to love myself for who I am.

Thank you for teaching me to not be dependent on other people.

Thank you for showing me that I don’t need to be with someone else to have fun.

Thank you for helping me grow emotionally.

Thank you for showing me what love is not.

Sincerely,

The best thing that ever happened to you.
