At the beginning of each new year, we all tend to make resolutions we probably won’t end up following – but hey, it’s the thought that counts right? Recently, I’ve found some slight motivation to make sure 2016 is my year, to be organized, healthy and active. Since our generation is always using some type of mobile device, there are some great apps out there to help you along the way. Here are my top 3 apps for 2016!

iHydrate

We’ve all been told we need to drink more water and the reasons why – it helps keep your skin looking good, prevents health-related risks and promotes weight loss. However, it can be difficult to keep track of how much you drink versus how much you need. With this free app for Apple devices, you can determine the amount of water intake your body requires, based on your age and weight. As you consume any fluids throughout the day (water, juice, coffee, beer, milk etc.) just add it to your total, and your progress will show as a percentage. What I found really useful about this particular app was that I can set customizable notifications that remind me to drink water, so I’ll never forget to stay hydrated!

Period Tracker Lite

Gone are the days where I’d have to track my cycle on my whiteboard calendar (struggles, I know). The worst is when you mess up your count and end up not being prepared, but of course, there’s an app for that! What I really enjoy about this app are all the cool features, and that it’s available for both Apple and Android devices. For one, it requires a passcode in order to open the app, so all your information stays confidential. Besides the cute themes, it’s really easy to use and helps plan for future events. On the calendar mode, it shows the projected days for your period, ovulation and fertility, months in advance. You can also take daily note of symptoms, intimacy and moods. It’s also a great tool to have in your back pocket in case you may ever need to refer back to something for your next appointment.

SWORKIT

Sometimes you just don’t want to leave the house to go to the gym, I totally get it. That’s why this app has become an essential part of my day. Another free app available for Android and Apple devices, it’s customizable features has given it a high rating among users. With routines available for strength, cardio, yoga and stretching, you can pick how much time you have varied from 5 to 60 minutes. There are also featured routines that give you no excuse to not be able to fit a workout into your day. Working at a desk all day? No worries, there’s a routine called “Around the Office” and “Office Chair Refresher”. Can’t exactly lie down on the ground? There’s a standing only workout for you! If you can’t find something interesting, you can also always customize your very own workout from the available exercises – really following through with the slogan, “No Gym. No Excuse.”
