We all probably purge our closets at least twice a year, but let’s be honest––how often do these purges include our underwear drawer?
Dear collegiettes, if you’re anything like us, you probably adamantly believe that your bras and undies can last for years. However, we decided to uncover the truth. Read below for the obvious signs it’s time to replace your beloved undergarments:
They’ve lost their shape & support
Our breasts change a lot more than we realize, so supporting them the right way is of the utmost importance. After all, support is the exact reason we wear a bra in the first place. Get measured at least once a year to make sure you’re supporting your breasts properly.
As far as underwear is concerned, countless wash cycles can wear them super quickly, so we recommend replacing them every six months. Besides, what girl doesn’t love some sexy new underwear?
They are uncomfortable
According to Mona Gohara, M.D. and Associate Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the Yale School of Medicine, you should definitely throw away any undergarments that just don’t feel right––especially any that are lacy, because the discomfort can actually cause cysts and irritation.
Even if you purchase a perfectly fitting piece of lingerie, shrinkage in underwear or band movement in bras can happen in the wash. Undergarments are supposed to help you (seriously) so don’t be sad about tossing the ones that hurt you.
Bonus: Shopping for new bras and underwear is always fun, so don’t hesistate to replace your undergarments! It’s definitely better for you in the long run.
