Confessions of a Coffee Addict

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Now the title of the article sounds a bit extreme because every college student enjoys coffee, but I legitimately have a problem. I have been drinking coffee every day since junior year of high school, and there hasn’t been a day in college where I haven’t had coffee. I was hoping that I would have been able to push this coffee dependency until at least my twenties, but here we are. I feel deeply connected to Lorelei Gilmore every time some asks me how many cups of coffee I had that day, since the number is typically around three or four.

I don’t think it’s truly an addiction (I can stop whenever I want), I just really enjoy coffee. Despite my friends thinking I’m just trying to cover up my addiction, I actually do like the taste of coffee. My excitement when I found out I would be living in an eight-man was unparalleled, solely for the fact that I would be able to have a Keurig. I can drink my coffee any time of day, and I consider my ability to not suffer negative side effects from excessive amount of caffeine my best feature. So coffee is pretty much an essential part of my life at this point.

The people who refuse to drink coffee or are adamant about staying away from caffeine constantly amaze me. I couldn’t imagine going a day without having coffee in the morning… and multiple times throughout the day. Once, I successfully went without coffee for three weeks and I have never felt prouder of myself. However, I did revert back to my old habits after a while.

This might seem bad, but the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem right?

She spends her free time getting addicted to shows on Netflix (it happens to the best of us), napping, and taking Buzzfeed quizzes.
