5 Tips to maximize sleep during finals

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SMU chapter.

It’s that time of the year. You’re exhausted, and need an IV of coffee going at all times. Here are some tips to keep you rested during finals week!

#1 Plan Ahead: In other words, don’t wait until the night before to study for your finals. Break studying up into 30 minute blocks to maximize productivity and concentration, and score some more Z’s.

#2 Use those reading days: Use the extra time the school is giving you to study! Do your best to wake up before noon, and get some quality study time in while the sun is still up.

#3 Use the librarians: If you have a research paper final, don’t spend hours and hours finding sources on your own. The librarians at the help desks can help you find more sources than you could even need in 30 minutes.

#4 Turn off electronics: Turn off your cellphone to limit distractions, and try to stay off Netflix. Not only will this keep you focused on the task at hand, but it will allow you to fall asleep a bit easier!

#5 Avoid caffeine: Try to avoid caffeine too close to when you plan on going to bed. Caffeine from coffee stays in the system for about 3 or 4 hours, so prepare yourself!

Good luck and sleep well!
