Every girl loves PINK, and with the iconic Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show coming up, sophomore Trysten Florey is one of your go-to girls to get the best viewing experience. Florey is a PINK rep at ISU, along with previous HC Campus Cutie Jenna Durante. Together, they work to put together events through PINK on campus and in stores.
Name: Trysten Florey
Hometown: Morton, IL
Major: Marketing
Year in School: Sophomore
Role Model: My sister, Paiton
Celebrity Crush: Channing Tatum
Fun Fact: I’m pretty sure I drink more coffee than water during the day.
Her Campus ISU: Describe yourself in three words.
Trysten Florey: Outgoing, funny (I’m hilarious), and hungry (all the time).
HC ISU: What is your role as a PINK rep?
TF: We’re given mandatory events from corporate that we have to plan. We plan them with our street team of eight girls. Jenna and I spearhead it and we come up with ideas for the event like potential venues and giveaway ideas. We have biweekly meetings that the street team all comes to and Jenna and I meet one-on-one sometimes. It’s a really fun time and a great experience. There’s a lot of hands-on marketing and social media, so that’s fun. I run the Snapchat and Facebook while Jenna does Twitter and Instagram.
HC ISU: What is your favorite part about being a PINK rep?
TF: I want to be an event planner, so I think that’s my favorite part. It’s full of event planning and I love it.
HC ISU: What has been your favorite event to plan so far?
TF: So far, probably our welcome week event (Festival ISU) because it was a lot bigger than we thought it was going to be. We gained 600 followers on Snapchat that day.
HC ISU: What other kind of events do you put on?
TF: We have social media contests, our welcome week event, the fashion show viewing party this week, and something during spring break or around that time. The store parties are planned by us; we partner with local stores and the associates help us out.
HC ISU: What will be going on at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show viewing this week?
TF: It’ll be at The Flats on the second floor. So we’ll watch the fashion show; it’ll be a livestream. The first 25 PINK nation members to come will get a PINK dog ornament. The first 10 girls will also get a special opportunity that’s a secret right now. During the show on the commercial breaks, we’ll have social media contests for people to win prizes.
HC ISU: What else are you involved in on campus?
TF: I am co-secretary with my sister, Paiton, in service sorority Epsilon Sigma Alpha, I’m an assistant mentor program coordinator for business week, I’m a PINK rep, and I might be coaching volleyball next semester at Illini Elite.
HC ISU: How do you keep up with all the organizations you’re involved in?
TF: Time management is a big one. I kind of learned the hard way; I took on everything at the beginning of the semester and I had a couple mental breakdowns. But I love being busy. It almost makes me more stressed to not be doing something rather than to be busy.
HC ISU: How has all of this helped shape who you are?
TF: I was more of an introvert coming in as a freshman. I didn’t have many friends from high school coming to ISU so I kind of had to make friends on my own. I kind of had to start over and learn how to make friends. It’s shaped me into a more outgoing and carefree person, especially at ESA. Talking in front of 300 girls, you can’t really be an introvert doing that! It’s a lot of fun though; I like hanging out with new people and meeting new people a lot more now.
HC ISU: What advice do you have for people looking to get involved?
TF: Get involved early. I got involved as a freshman, but not as involved as I am now. I wouldn’t have the amazing college experience as I do now if I didn’t get involved. I’m glad that I got involved; I love it. I was on the street team my freshman year; a girl in my sorority was a rep and she told us about it. I applied online and was on the street team, so I got to know a lot of the girls on the street team and had an idea of the events and all of that.
