Rules You MUST Live By In College

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

The phrase “College goes by so quickly,” is one so many people say. However, you don’t really believe it until you experience it. Four years seems like a long time, but before you know it, it’s almost over. So here are a few rules to live by in college to make the most out of your time on campus.

Try New Things:

There are so many things to try on campus. From restaurants to clubs, there is always something new to do. Don’t hold yourself back, try something you have never done before! It’s so easy to just go to chain restaurants and stay in your comfort zone. But by trying new things you open yourself up to new experiences!

Take Naps:

At what other point in your life are you going to be able to take naps whenever you want? College is one of the last times when you are going to be able to take a mid-morning nap and a late-afternoon nap. So enjoy the time you have now to revert back to those glorious kindergarten days.

Explore:

Don’ts just stay on one side of campus! Both Champaign and Urbana have unique buildings, stores and restaurants. Walk around and discover something new. You never know what you will find!

Travel:

After college, most likely, you will end up with a job that involves you staying in one place. College is the perfect time to travel. You can study abroad for a semester or even just go somewhere for a week. There are so many different places to go and it’s so easy to travel in college.

Take a Class for Fun:

Of course you should take the right classes to make sure you can graduate on time, but if there is space in your schedule take a class for fun! If you like to draw take a drawing class, or just take something thatsounds interesting. There are hundreds of classes at U of I and you should take advantage of all our University has to offer.

See a Show:

There are tons of shows at Krannert year round and tickets are either free or incredibly cheap. So make a night of it and see a show. It’s great entertainment and gives you a chance to see something you might not have seen otherwise. Plus, professional groups like the Chicago Symphony Orchestra visit as well.

Be Spontaneous:

Take chances and be willing to make mistakes. If you aren’t open to trying new things you’ll miss out on a lot of things in college. Don’t let the idea that something might sound a little bit out there keep you from trying it. Let go of your inhibitions and soak up all college has to offer!
