One of my favorite parts of the holiday season is wearing tacky Christmas sweaters. I walk into a store and look at all of the options, my excitement growing with every second—that is, until I look at the price tag and remember the current balance of my bank account.
Luckily, with a few inexpensive materials and a little creativity, even the least crafty of people can create ugly, yet adorable, Christmas sweaters to rock at any holiday party without breaking the bank!Â
 Materials:
- An old sweater
- Various Christmas decorations (ornaments, garland, gift bows, battery operated holiday lights, jingle bells, etc.)
- Other materials (felt, pompoms, buttons, googly eyes, etc.)
- Hot glue gun, fabric glue or a needle and thread
What to do:
Choose the theme of your Christmas sweater. Do you want to create a Christmas tree adorned with ornaments, garland and lights? How about a reindeer, complete with a shiny, red nose, large antlers and a tail on the back of the sweater? If you’re not wanting to put that much thought into it or you don’t have a lot of time, gather all of the decorations you can find and cover the whole sweater to create a chaotic, yet festive look. Get creative and don’t be afraid to look a little silly. When it comes to tacky Christmas sweaters, the crazier the better!Â
Get your hot glue gun ready and begin crafting! Let your inner designer shine as you glue and sew. It’s really that simple! Not only will you not have to worry about walking into a party only to have the dreadful experience of wearing the same sweater as another girl, but your creation will be an original work of art that will be totally your own.
If you want to gain a few bonus points, accessorize with other fun and festive pieces! Throw on the Santa hat or reindeer antlers you have lying around or make a quick trip to the Dollar Tree and pick up a few cheap accessories like Christmas light bulb earrings or festive holiday socks to pair with your tacky Christmas sweater!
It’s impossible to be too over the top during the holidays, so have fun and get ready to deck the halls!Â
