This week we got a chance to chat with Marissa Stupecki, an amazing junior here at JCU!
You are the President of Streaks in Keys, tell us about this group.
Streaks in Key is John Carroll’s mixed a Capella group and we’ve been singing since 2013. We have 15 talented members this semester, including 8 new members this year. We’ve grown considerably since last year, and the other officers and I couldn’t be happier.Â
Tell us about the upcoming concert your group is putting on.
Our winter concert is Wednesday Dec. 9th from 7-8pm in the Underground. We’ll be singing some holiday classics, 2 all new songs (including a mashup), and some of our old favorites.Â
At what age did you start singing?/ How long have you been singing for?
I’ve been singing since I was very little in church and just around the house. Music has always been a part of my life. I still sing at church and I was in the Medina County Honors Choir.
What is it like singing with no music?
Singing a Capella is really cool. I’d never done it before joining Streaks. It can be challenging, but it’s easy to pick up with a good ear. It can be very percussive and repetitive, but we have fun with it.Â
How did you get into acapella?
I decided to join an a Capella choir at Carroll because I’d never done it before. It sounded fun! I was very excited to be part of a student run choir. It meant I had a say in what songs we sang and how the group was run.Â
What else are you involved in at JCU?
I’m the JCU Pep Band Operations Manager and I am involved with the leadership programs on campus. I am also a Carroll Reads tutor this year.Â
