This week’s campus celeb is junior nursing major Jacqueline Turner. When she has free time from learning how to save lives Jackie loves making her residents feel at home as a resident assistant in Xavier Hall— especially during the holiday season. From excitedly awaiting Christmas to making plans for New Year’s Eve with her friends, Jackie is excited for what 2016 has in store for her.
HC (Her Campus): If you had to pick a favorite winter holiday which would you choose, Thanksgiving or Christmas?
JT (Jacqueline Turner): Christmas! I love everything about it: being with family, the decorations, snow, food, gifts and music!
HC: What is your favorite part about the holidays? Any family traditions?
JT: I just love the entire atmosphere about the holidays. Seeing people get into the Christmas spirit and be happier and more generous is always nice to see. I also love going to the city to see the tree, ice skating and going skiing with my family. This is all something you can only do during the winter, which is why the winter is one of my favorite seasons. I have been spending Christmas down the shore for the past 13 years so that is one of my family’s traditions. Every Christmas we take our dog to the beach to run around and take a family picture. Also, every Christmas Eve my brother and I are given one gift to open…. coordinating pajamas to wear Christmas morning. I always expect it to happen every year.
HC: Have you started thinking about what you want for Christmas? What’s the top thing on your list?
JT: I haven’t really thought about what I wanted for Christmas mostly because I like to be surprised. I really like the L.L Bean duck boots so maybe I’ll ask for that this Christmas.
HC: Being an RA in Xavier how do you try to make your residents who live far away feel at home at SHU during the holiday seasons? Do you like to decorate to celebrate or do something special for residents who decide to stay on campus?
JT: Because I love to craft I usually decorate my floor with snowflakes and other wintery things to get everyone into the holiday spirit. I also will have Christmas music playing whenever I am working at the desk all of December and probably give out Christmas cookies at my last desk shift of the semester this year.
HC: What’s your favorite part about SHU during the holidays?
JT: I love the Christmas tree lighting ceremony! Seeing all of SHU together going to mass, singing carols and counting down for the tree to be lit is one of my favorite traditions SHU has. I also really love SHU’s dedication to service during the holiday season by having the DOVE toy drive. I think it really gets people into the giving spirit.
HC: What are looking forward to the most in 2016 after the holiday season is over?
JT: I am looking forward to seeing what 2016 has in store for me! It’s another year for me to meet new people, learn more, and set new goals.
This or That: Holiday Edition

HC: Blizzard or flurries?
JT: Blizzard! Being snowed in is the perfect opportunity to stay in and watch movies all day.
HC: Christmas Eve or New Year’s Eve?
JT: NYE. It’s an excuse to get dressed up and go out with friends.
