Nico Triunfante: Golden Eagle Radio Events Coordinator

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal State LA chapter.

You’ve probably seen Golden Eagle Radio (GER) allover campus, playing jams on the Main Walkway or DJing at the Pit. It can be tough handling all the events that GER covers, but Events Coordinator Nico “Blitz” Triunfante has got it covered. Majoring in Television, Film, and Media with an option in Broadcast Journalism, Nico followed the entertainment industry and moved from the Bay Area to Los Angeles. Immediately he joined GER and now has two shows, “The Lunch Table” and “The Gainz Time,” in addition to being Events Coordinator. Read on to find out more about how Nico got involved with GER and what he sees in the future for the radio station!

What made you decide to attend Cal State LA?

I decided to attend Cal State LA in order to get closer to the city where television, radio, and entertainment are home. I used this school as my way to put myself into situations where I’m guaranteed to make connections for the future I have planned out for myself.

How has being in Los Angeles influenced your future goals?

Let’s start off with my future goals. I’ve always had this notion that I could become a well-known rapper and music producer, simply because music has always been a tool that unites people and even take you back in time to when you first heard a song. I’m a firm believer of unity amongst all groups. I also feel like I have a loud voice that can easily reach people.

Back to my point, moving to Los Angeles has introduced me to several individuals who share similar goals of mine. I feel like I’m at the right place since I’ve moved to Los Angeles because everything just seems to click. I’m meeting new people, making connections, handing out business cards to people who are interested in what I have to offer; so I’m definitely doing something right.

How did you get involved with Golden Eagle Radio?

On the first day of classes during rush week on campus, I knew the first step to making someone out of myself is to join an organization that would be beneficial toward my future goals. I remember exiting the music building from class and walking around the library toward the Main Walkway. Immediately I heard hip-hop being blasted from a speaker system. I discreetly rushed toward the music and stumbled upon two speakers, a DJ along with several people in black t-shirts and a banner that said Golden Eagle Radio.

I was greeted by one of the members and he asked if I could attend the next meeting. I took a chance and decided to go to that meeting, where dozens of other students filled the small Montebello Room in the University-Student Union.

Since then I went out to every Golden Eagle Radio event on campus, helping out by setting up and breaking down DJ sets, and emceeing to get my name out there.

After my first year at Cal State LA was through, I was asked by the previous president of the radio to become the Events Coordinator for the radio station.

What do you do as Events Coordinator?

As Events Coordinator for Golden Eagle Radio, my job on paper consists of communicating with clients, finalizing DJs and dates for events, and constantly ensuring that nothing goes wrong during these events from the Golden Eagle Radio side of the coin.

What’s not on paper is the unity that I mentioned earlier. I noticed that the students at this school are not as active as I’ve seen at other universities. My goals as the Events Coordinator for GER is to create an atmosphere for students to enjoy, and make them want to be on campus because events are energetic and fun to be at and that they enjoy the music that our station gives them during these events.

What would you like to see happen to GER this school year?

I have a lot of plans for the remainder of the year for Golden Eagle Radio. First and foremost, I want our radio’s viewership to go stupendously higher. I want students on campus to know we exist and are ready to be the greatest source of entertainment. To do this plan, I want a huge party for Cal State LA students with Golden Eagle Radio as the hosts. I want our hosts to post their shows on social media, promote them verbally so people feel like they’ve been invited to listen to some exclusive content.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Honestly, I don’t know. Life is moving faster than ever before, and I’ve always been the type of person to go with the flow of things. All I know is, wherever I end up, whatever I’ll be doing in the future, it’ll be something that I have full control over. I know for sure I’ll be in a position where I’m enjoying myself, my career, and my life in general.
