Since there are less than two weeks of classes left before the semester is finally over, I have began making my list of things I want to do during the long break. Of course 50% of this list is movies. However, unlike most people, I always love learning fun facts about the behind-the-scenes of the movies, whether it be about the filming process or before the cameras even began rolling. So here are five fun facts about some movies that should definitely be on your watch list this winter break.
The 1-800 number that was originally in Ghostbusters led callers to a prerecording of Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd. After it’s initial release there were 1,000 calls every hour, 24 hours a day, for 6 weeks.
The girl who voiced Lilo in Lilo & Stitch, Daveigh Chase, also played the creepy Samara Morgan from The Ring. I don’t think I will be able to watch either movie the same way.
Ed Helm’s missing tooth in The Hangover was actually missing and not done with computer. No adult tooth ever grew in, so Helm had a fake tooth in its place on a day-to-day basis but removed it for the film.
Every 1 second of Tim Burton’s stop-motion film The Nightmare Before Christmas has 24 photographs in it; this means that it took a week to finish 1 minute of the film and 3 years to complete the full film. That really puts the film into perspective, doesn’t it?
Finally, the beloved and well-known time machine car in the Back to the Future series was not originally going to be a car at all. It was initially scripted to be a refrigerator. Imagine Marty McFly climbing in next to some leftover meatloaf to go to the future.
What fun facts do you know about movies? Also what are the plans you are most excited for during the winter break?
