Drinks for Fall Weather

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVM chapter.

Here are some heated drinks that will warm you right up! Whether you are a hot cocoa fan, like apple cider or are a coffee lover here are some easy, cozy drinks to make as the temperature drops.

Who likes Hot Chocolate?! When it comes to this chilly time of year I can never pass up this delicious, heart-warming drink. But ever feel like you want to switch up your plain old hot cocoa or even learn to make it from scratch? Well now it’s time to learn to make hot chocolate 2.0 with these variations…all of which you can make right in your microwave!

1. Basic Hot Chocolate (without the packet)

There’s nothing like a glass of simple, classic hot cocoa. In order to make hot chocolate without the packet, you are going to need one cup of milk and 2 tablespoons of chocolate chips (dark, milk, semi-sweet…it is up to you). First using a mug, heat your milk in the microwave for 1 minute and 30 seconds. After this you will put your chocolate chips in the mug and stir until all the chocolate melts. If you like your hot chocolate sweeter, at this point you can also stir in 1 tablespoon of brown sugar and ½ teaspoon of vanilla along with a pinch of salt.

2. Classic Peppermint Hot Cocoa

Use the basic hot chocolate recipe found above, but instead of adding vanilla add peppermint extract. (Your hot chocolate will taste like a Girl Scout Thin Mint cookie)

3. Peanut Butter fan? Peanut Butter Hot Cocoa

To get your hot chocolate tasting like a drinkable Reese’s Cup, mix together 1 cup of skim milk, ½ of heavy cream, 4 ounces of chopped up milk chocolate and ¼ cup of creamy peanut butter…once all stirred together, pop in the microwave for about a minute and a half!

4. Easy Fruity Hot Cocoa: Strawberry Hot Chocolate

For this recipe you first are going to pour one cup of strawberry milk into your mug and microwave it for two minutes. After this grab a packet of premade hot cocoa mix and combine with the hot milk. (I suggest putting whipped cream atop this one, it will taste even more delicious)

What’s not to love about apples and the fall? Since I was a kid I have always loved hot apple cider and these twists not only taste delicious but leave a nice fall aroma of apples in your room/house!

1. Hot Chai Apple Cider

Pour 1 cup of apple cider into a microwave safe mug and heat for 3 minutes. Next add 1 chai tea bag to the mug. If desired add a small slice or orange or lemon peel and a drizzle of caramel. Of course you can then top with whipped cream!

2. Caramel Apple Spiced Apple Cider

Pour 1 cup of apple juice or apple cider in a mug and microwave for approximately 1 ½ minutes. After take the mug out and stir in 1 ½ tbsp of caramel sauce. Finally top it with a caramel drizzle, some whipped cream and a pinch of salt.

I love my coffee every day, but sometimes I like to switch things up and not just drink it with cream and sugar…this said, these two coffee recipes have come to my rescue this fall, not to mention they are super easy and quick!

1. Hot Salted Nutella Latte

Yes, this recipe might make your life. In a mug microwave Âľ cup of milk, a teaspoon of Nutella, ½ tsp of simple sugar and a pinch of salt. Microwave for 1 ½ minutes, stirring halfway in between. When you’re done take the mug out and add fresh espresso.

2. Pumpkin Coffee

It just wouldn’t be right if pumpkin didn’t make the list. For this pumpkin coffee recipe put 2 tablespoons of pumpkin puree, 2 teaspoons cocoa powder, and 2 dashes of pumpkin spice in a mug. Once mixed, stir in one cup of milk and ÂĽ espresso or coffee. Put in the microwave 1 ½ – 2 minutes.Â
