“It’s the holiday season and so whoop-de-do and hickory dock,” I sing as I walk around campus bugging my peers and housemates by being overly excited about Christmas.
Some people keep trying to tell me that it’s too early to start listening to Christmas music because we have Thanksgiving and all. And I get that, Thanksgiving should have its time too but unfortunately there’s no Thanksgiving music that can put us all in the holiday mood. I just don’t understand why I only get the 30 days between Thanksgiving and Christmas to listen to my favorite type of music. I wait 11 months for this time of the year. You’re telling me artists wrote these classic songs so that they only could be listened to for a month? Nonsense!
Look, it’s not my fault that as soon as Halloween is over, everyone starts hanging up their lights and red bows and silver tinsel. Michaels turned into Santa’s toy shop on October 30 for goodness sake! They were having a 50 percent off sale on all Christmas trees! So I know I am not alone. It the midst of all of this, I thought I’d express how I truly feel about the holiday season with some gifs. Because I am naturally Christmas AF.
1. When Starbucks releases their red holiday cups on Nov. 1 and I can’t contain my excitement.
Maybe this year’s edition isn’t the best cup they have ever released but the bright red color of the Starbucks cup still gets me in the holiday mood! The company also comes out with the tasty holiday flavors like peppermint mocha, caramel brulée llatte and chestnut praline latte. As soon as I hear that they are back, this becomes me:
2. When regular music stations turn into holiday stations from November to January and jamming out in my car becomes inevitable.
The radio knows what’s up. They are just giving the people what they want. As soon as I hear a station will only be playing holiday music for the next two months, I lose my mind.
3. When the Michael’s Website becomes holiday central.
The week before Halloween I walked into Michael’s craft store to get things for my costume and was stopped in my tracks when I saw the holiday displays. Basically this is what I looked like:
4. When I get to enjoy Black Friday, one of my favorite days during the holiday season.
I completely agree that Black Friday shouldn’t start the morning of Thanksgiving. It’s a day for family, giving thanks and FOOD. But I l do love that I can go the day after and get some of the best sales on gifts. Getting things on sale is one of the best feelings. And I always look like a crazy person running around and trying to beat the crowds.
5. When all of the holiday candies and goodies are yours for the taking.
Stop and Shop has all of the candy cane flavors you could think of. And, lets not forget the winter Oreos with the little winter designs on them (side note: Winter Oreos are always double stuffed). My personal favorite are the “limited edition” white fudge covered Oreos that only come out during the holiday season. The holiday candies you can get are endless and they’re everywhere!
6. When the moment I see the first house with Christmas lights on it (usually mid-November) and I immediately ask my mom if we can put ours up.
Putting lights all around the house is a lot of work for them just to be up for a month. My house is usually the one with the most lights on the block and we pride ourselves on that.
In conclusion, I think the holiday season is the best time of the year. And, I am going to start celebrating now! Life’s too short, so spend the next two months jamming out to Christmas tunes and enjoying those holiday coffees!
Oh, and here’s a song to get you started:
