If you’ve ever taken a minute to search YouTube or if you’ve ever taken a Buzzfeed quiz, you’ve probably seen this face before:
This is Tyler Oakley—YouTube vlogger, podcast host of Psychobabble, LGBT rights advocate and—most recently—author of New York Time’s Bestseller Binge. Having won over the hearts of 7.5 million subscribers, over 5 million Instagram followers and almost 5 million Twitter followers, Oakley has accumulated quite the audience and become one of the most well-known internet personalities in the world. In his tell-all book Binge, Oakley goes in depth about parts of his life never-before mentioned on his YouTube channel–from his first love to meeting Michelle Obama.
Unlike other YouTubers, Oakley doesn’t perform skits or make films on his channel. Instead, he shares his humorous personality with his audience through collaborations with other YouTubers, Q&As, and vlog videos of his everyday life. Oakley has also been an intern since 2009 with The Trevor Project—an organization focused on the prevention of suicide among LGBT youth. The 26-year-old YouTube star is known for using his massive Internet presence in support of LGBT youth as well. Since 2009, Oakley has used his birthday to conduct a fundraiser for The Trevor Project each year, raising a total of $525,704 in March of 2014 alone, and over $1 million total. Oakley has also had several appearances on the red carpet and talk shows such as The Talk, Insider Tonight, and many more.
Having first announced Snervous, over a month ago, Oakley drew in some new attention when he uploaded a trailer (below) for the documentary on his YouTube channel on November 6, 2015. Snervous is set to follow Oakley’s worldwide 2014 Slumber Party tour—including behind the scenes footage of the tour, as well as snippets of Oakley’s video-making process and personal life off screen.
Snervous is set to be released on December 11, 2015 and looks as though it will encapsulate fans with the full story of Oakley’s personal struggles, to the build up of his YouTube career, his relationship with his fans, and the opportunities that have come along with his success. The film is available for preorder now at snervous.com.
