What better way to end our “Big Man On Campus” Cutie series than to get the inside scoop from the one… the only… Mr. Kevin Farrell! Not only is he the Director of Student Center Services and the Assistant Director of Student Activities, but he also oversees a multitude of student groups on campus and has been the main man behind the scenes of this year’s B.M.O.C. competition. Needless to say, Kevin goes above and beyond what is asked of him, and it’s all for us. Keep reading to learn more about this campus celeb!
HCE: How long have you worked at Emmanuel?
KF: I am going into my sixth year.
HCE: Wow, that’s awesome! Where is your favorite place to go in Boston? When you’re not at EC, of course!
KF: I don’t know… I would say that I enjoy going to Emmanuel Athletic events at Clemente. Alissa [Lynch] and I also like to go to the movie theater at Assembly Row in Somerville. We like it because it’s like luxury theater.
HCE: Sounds fun! So, you oversee a lot of student groups and events on campus. Tell us… how do you juggle all of that?
KF: I would say that I have a tremendous amount of help with the student groups and the executive boards. I would never be able to manage all of the things I oversee without strong executive boards. I have to give those students a lot of credit because, as we all know, it’s not easy to work for Kevin Farrell.
HCE: [Laughs] Well it definitely seems like you’ve picked some great students to be on your team! What is your favorite memory you’ve had at EC?
KF: This is hard… My favorite memory probably has to be… I mean, I think raising the numbers at our first Dance Marathon and seeing the faces of the student leaders and the participants is one of my favorite memories. For us to surpass our goal like that and raise over $18,000 in the first year was incredible.
HCE: Are you excited about Big Man On Campus? What should the audience expect?
KF: I am extremely excited for it! It’s kind of a spin off from Mr. Emmanuel, but it has a strong backing. The participants actually had to be nominated from various student groups and whoever wins not only wins the title, but will really be representing Emmanuel as the B.M.O.C. The audience should expect laughter, entertainment, I think a little bit of inspiration, and a good time!
HCE: So… who’s your fan favorite?
KF: Um, I’m gonna give a cop-out answer. All nine of them are getting in front of a crowd of hundreds of people and embarrassing themselves for a great cause. I give them credits and kudos for doing that. I truly believe that each of them will have part of the crowds’ heart.
Make sure you check out the competition tonight to support your favorite in the fight of being crowned this year’s Big Man On Campus!
