10 Ways to De-Stress: Because You Know You Need To

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at F and M chapter.

1. Go to (hot) yoga class – preferably a class taught by a yoga instructor who not only guides you through your 60 minute practice, but who also guides you through your life with their incredible yoga philosophies; amazing yoga instructors never fail to let you walk out of their studio without having inspired you in some way. Plus, you will sweat out all that toxic stress.

2. Treat yo self – with one of those delicious almond milk mochas from Mean Cup, and maybe one of their to die for croissants too.

3. Go for a run or walk – any form of exercise ALWAYS helps. It’s the miracle cure for sure.

4. Blast music and dance your booty off – Bottom line is dance however crazy you feel like dancing, and sing beautifully off key at the top of your lungs. Adele’s new single, “Hello”, is great for exercising the vocal chords…

5. Schedule a FaceTime date – with your mother, brother, father, sister, best friends from home, or really whoever makes you smile. Sometimes a little dose of home is all you need.

6. Make a list – everything always seems crazy in your head, but writing it all down so you can see what you need to do on paper helps so much; I promise.

7. Watch an episode (or two…) of Scandal – because your current stress level will never surmount to the problems in which Olivia Pope has to deal with 24 hours a day, every day. She will make you feel better about yourself and your issues; it’s inevitable.

8. Perform Ancient Buddhist breathing exercises – I may or may not be joking. I’m not experienced in meditation techniques per say, but they are supposedly very beneficial for the mind and body. I don’t doubt it.

9. Journal – self reflection is extremely therapeutic. I swear by it. Journaling allows you to get in touch with your inner thoughts; the good stuff that matters.

10. Take a power nap – All of my friends are avid nappers. I have never been a believer in napping, but college might change my mind. That’s all I have to say.
