“Beware of Crimson Peak!” More like hop-on-the-next-carriage-over-there because you do not want to miss out on this truly spectacular film directed by the talented Guillermo del Toro! Here are four reasons on why you should go see this amazing film:
1. Stunning Visuals
Red, Red everywhere! Hence the name Crimson Peak. The house on Crimson Peak sits on a huge well of red clay that gives the appearance of blood on the snow-covered grounds. The entire film was shot in Canada but the takes place in 19th century Northern England. You won’t believe the size of the Sharpe’s house that Edith moves into and what secrets lay inside. The cinematography was very much on point for this film.
2. Awesome Score
As a musician, I always pay close attention to film scores when I watch movies. And I have to say that this score was perfectly composed. The composer, Fernando Velázquez, has done films such as The Impossible and Mama. He even composed the score for the upcoming film Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. The mysterious and haunting score really ties in the horror aspect of this dramatic and fantastic film.
3. Fantastic Actors
I’m not going to lie. I hate scary movies… The only reason why I went to this one was to get my Tom Hiddleston fix. Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers, Only Lovers Left Alive) played the mysterious and alluring Thomas Sharpe. But of course I also had to see another favorite actor of mine: Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland, Jane Eyre) who played the young author Edith Cushing. Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty, The Martian) played Lady Lucille Sharpe and Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy) played the dashing Dr. Alan McMichael.
4. Interesting and Original Plot Line
Edith Cushing, an inquistive author who writes about her encounters with ghosts, meets and falls in love with the sexy Sir Thomas Sharpe. They get married and Edith moves into his enormous but ruinous family home, which he shares with his perplexing sister, Lady Lucille Sharpe. Edith slowly starts to realize that there are ghosts haunting the house and investigates what happened to them and what may well happen to her if she doesn’t figure out the truth about the Sharpes.
