If you’re an avid fashion magazine reader, you are probably pretty familiar with the talented Cara Delevingne. At the very least, you can’t miss her distinctive eyebrows. Not only is Delevingne a former model for big fashion brands like Burberry, Victoria’s Secret, Chanel, DKNY, and Mulberry, but she is also an aspiring actress (she starred in six films this year), has been a cover star for Vogue twice, is an avid drummer and beat-boxer, a bacon zealot, and is best friends with Taylor Swift and Kendall Jenner (CaKe). She leaves us wondering, what can’t she do?
Besides the her many talents and titles, Delevingne is also known for her quirky and wild personality. Her bubbly and candid attitude is always infectous during her interviews. With a successful career, celebrity best friends, lovable charisma, and 21 million Instagram followers, Delevingne basically has the world at her feet.
Delevingne seems to be living every girl’s dream, but at one point she was not happy. During an interview at the Women in the World Summit this year, Delevingne, referencing her previous depression issues, admitted to having had suicidal thoughts while she was a model. “I really wanted someone to stop me and no one did,” she said. “I was the one who had it all.”
Delevingne explained that even though externally she was living a fabulous life with a thriving career, she was facing tremendous internal battles, while her agency stuffed her with medication in an attempt to quickly eradicate the problem. Delevingne later spoke up against her previous modeling agency and stressed the importance of saying “no.” Eventually, it was Delevingne’s supermodel friend, Kate Moss, who told her to take a break and take care of herself.
Delevingne ended the interview with the beautiful message of self-love. “Mental illness or depression is not something to be ashamed of,” she stated. “Accept yourself, love yourself, and embrace your flaws. I think flaws are the things that make us special. The cracks within us are the beautiful parts that need to have light shed on them.” By opening up about her most truthful story, Delevingne has indeed inspired many and will continue to do so with her power.
