How to Reenergize and Power Through the Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

After midterms, the semester drags on. It is easy to give up on staying healthy and turn to a lifestyle of binge-watching Gossip Girl on Netflix while eating pizza. Believe me, I think we have all been there at some point. Though you might be feeling tired like never before, there are ways to reenergize your life and kickstart your fitness and health in college. Here are some quick and easy ways to survive midterm fatigue and keep your body healthy and strong for the last half of the semester.

1. Stay Hydrated!

This is probably the easiest and most overlooked step in staying healthy in college and in life. Water helps everything in our bodies to function properly and without enough water, we begin to feel weaker and drowsy. This could possibly be the cause of your midterm fatigue – besides the actual midterms.

 2. Quality Control

Maintain a balance of healthy and unhealthy snack foods. Chocolate and pizza are the best, just not everyday. Limiting your intake of unhealthy foods will help you to prevent any unnecessary weight gain like the freshman 15. Also, be sure to find healthy foods that you actually like. Do not force yourself to eat baby carrots if you hate carrots. Find something that makes you almost excited as pizza.

 3. Portion Control

Do not eat more than you need. Avoid mindlessly snacking while watching netflix and be more conscious of what you are eating. Eat what you enjoy, but not more than your body needs. Food is energy for the body so make sure that you are not overly energizing your body. See this chart for some ways to measure portion sizes.

4. #YOLO

Keep in mind that at the end of the day, college is about learning and having an amazing time. Being healthy is important, but remember to treat yourself to curly fries at Rhett’s and Pumpkin Spice Lattes. You only live once so eat what you want to eat. But never forget about the importance of health.

Cheers to the end of the semester and healthier living. You can live a healthy life and eat pizza. As long as you balance the unhealthy with the healthy, you can maintain a happy and healthy lifestyle. Leave a comment below if you have any more tips for healthy living.
