Here’s a semi-embarrassing truth about me: I get more excited for November first than Halloween itself. Wanna know why? Because Halloween candy is ridiculously marked down. I don’t mind eating pumpkin-shaped Reese’s if its after Halloween. I have no shame.
But, if you’re like me, you may be starting to realize that your sweet tooth maybe isn’t the healthiest. For that reason, I have gathered up some non-candy alternatives to celebrating Halloween (or just getting your gorge on, healthily).
Dried Fruits
I’m not a huge raisin person. Or apricot. Or dates. But if there is one thing that I love, it’s fruit leathers. These are healthy alternatives to traditional gummy candies. I’m hoping to try to make my own at some point this year! Here’s a recipe for ya. http://www.justataste.com/healthy-homemade-mango-fruit-roll-ups-recipe/
Trail Mix or Granola
I just made a really delicious granola. It’s sweetened simply with a bit of honey and a bit of maple syrup, so it’s not too high in processed sugars like regular Halloween candy. I even throw in some dark chocolate chips if I’m really craving something sweet.
Greek Yogurt with Honey
Need a sweet fix, but hungry too? I gravitate towards an unsweetened Greek yogurt. It’s thick and creamy, and I top it with some honey so I can control the sweetness. I sometimes even add some of the aforementioned homemade granola!
Almonds in Cocoa Powder
Need a chocolatey, crunchy snack while watching spooky movies? Look no further than almonds in cocoa powder. You can even use hot cocoa mix!
It’s not always easy to avoid the temptation of processed sugars during Halloween. Hopefully having these alternatives on hand will make it a bit easier!
