Positive Proverbs: Taking the Good with the Bad

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rowan chapter.

In life, there are some days where you feel like you are on top of the world, and remember to be thankful for everything you have. Yet there are others where you feel like everything that can go wrong, will. It is hard, in those times, to remember everything good that has gone right, and be thankful for that. This week’s Positive Proverb comes from one of my all-time favorite people: Stephan Jenkins.

“You’re not blessed, and you’re not cursed. In the end you write your verse” – Stephan Jenkins

Stephan Jenkins is the lead singer for the band Third Eye Blind, who recently released a new album entitled Dopamine. This quote comes from a song called All These Things from Dopamine describing that every aspect of your life belongs to you. Every struggle, every heartache, every little victory, every dream that comes true, every dream that fails, is yours. So embrace the failures and adversity you face just as much as you celebrate every victory that comes your way. You may have things in your life that you feel make you blessed, and those that make you feel cursed; yet, any day, those things can be taken away from us and leave us in a time of confusion and fear. But every day you have a chance to write your own verse and set out on a new path. I leave you with this: write a new beautiful verse every day because you never know where the journey of life may take you.

My name is Jenna Filippoli and I am a new writer to HerCampus. I was inspired by one of my best friends who is a writer and has been writing for this magazine for a few years. By writing blogs for HerCampus, I want to reach girls in many different places and help with their daily struggles and empower them.
I am a Writing Arts major at Rowan University. Poetry is my best friend. One day, I hope to be a successful writer for a popular magazine in NYC. My dream is to travel to Paris, London, and Rome to explore and write about my experiences there.
