With the holidays fast approaching, decorating makes us all feel a little bit more at home. Even though you might be stuck in a small dorm room, it doesn’t mean you cant dress up those plain cement walls and make it a little more cozy for this holiday season.

Here are a few tips for some DIY dorm room decorations for my three favorite holidays!

1. Halloween

Head to any Marshalls, TJ Maxx, or Dollar store you can find. These stores are perfect when it comes to decorating. Just some small pumpkins or “trick-or-treat” signs to put on your desk will get you and your friends excited about October! Get some orange string lights to hang around your room and fake spider webs to go on your door so your neighbors know it’s the best time of the year. Next, get some of those cute jelly pumpkins and bats to stick on your windows for the world to see. A little decoration might brighten someones day and remind them of home. You’ll want to make some paper bats with your roomies and hang ’em up on string. You can also paint/decorate some mason jars and put some tiny candles in them for a shimmering effect. Now that your room is spooky as ever, grab some candy corn, cuddle up with your roomies, and throw on Hocus Pocus.

2. Thanksgiving

The holiday that brings us all together. I don’t know about you, but during all of November the anticipation builds inside of me about heading back home. Thinking about getting to hug my parents, eat gourmet home cooked meals, see my family, watch the parade, and play some football with my brothers and cousins gets me so excited. Although for most of November you’re at school, you can still decorate your room to make it feel more at home. You can simply get some glittery leaves to hang up around your room, along with a pretty “THANKFUL” banner to hang for people to see as they walk in your room. You can hang a festive leaf wreath on your door that will make your room seem more welcoming. In addition to these, we all know how every girl loves candles. Go to the store and get your favorite pumpkin spice candle to make your room smell irresistable – just like home!

3. Christmas

The best holiday and best time of the year, is it not? I think we can all agree on the fact nothing and not a single one is better than Christmas for the lights, the food, the music, and the spirt.  Everyone is happier at Christmastime, celebrating together and spreading joy. I don’t know about you, but as soon as November hits, the Christmas music comes on and the decorations come out. Although you’re confined to the four small walls of your dorm room, there’s no reason you can’t bring a little holiday spirit from home with you to collge. First things first, find a small tree that you can put in the corner and light up. It’ll make your room brighter and you and your roomies can leave little gifts underneath it for fun. And what’s Christmas without a mistletoe? Get one of these and hang it up right above your door. Next, get some wrapping paper and make your door look just like a present, doing it with your roommate makes for lots of laughs. Just as suggested with Thanksgiving, go out and get some scented candles for your room; my personal favorites being sugar cookies and pine needles. Lastly, you of course need the music playing non-stop from November until you leave for to go home for winter break. Not only will the music put you and your roomies in the jolliest, silliest mood, but you guys can rock out to some Mariah Carey together, and who doesn’t love that? These decorations will for sure make you feel more at home and keep the Christmas spirit in you alive.

Happy Decorating!
