The Walking Dead fans had varying reactions upon the announcement of Fear the Walking Dead, a limited 6-week series about the initial collapse of society in Los Angeles. Some viewers were skeptical, considering how attached to Rick, Daryl, and the others they had become. Other people were just excited to have six more weeks of walkers on their screen!
Fear the Walking Dead was met with mixed reviews, but the general consensus seemed to be a resounding “eh.” There was nothing extraordinary about it. I watched all the episodes, but I definitely wouldn’t go back and rewatch, while I could rewatch The Walking Dead a million times over. Nothing really moved me, except for one scene.
This scene comes in episode 3, called “The Dog.” Let me give you a little bit of advice, FTWD.
NEVER. KILL. THE. DOG.
As soon as the dog came onto the screen, I felt a sinking feeling, because as we all know, nothing is safe in The Walking Dead universe, especially characters that you immediately love.
They let the dog into the house, and there was a faint glimmer of hope that the dog might survive, but it was not so. In fact, the dog’s owner turns and eats his own dog, and this was my reaction.
Apparently, FTWD is not aware that people hate seeing animals die. People die all the time in this series, and while it’s sad, it’s no longer surprising. But seeing a cute animal die is a whole new realm, and one that I was not prepared for. If you felt the same way, you’ll be happy to know that there is a website to prevent future emotional trauma.
