The Best Nap Spots at UF

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

I’ve done my fair share of research and the results are in. I’ve found the comfiest, least embarrassing and most convenient places to catch some z’s on campus. Maybe you have an awkward two-hour block between classes so you don’t have enough time to make it home and back. Or maybe it’s midterm week for you, so you’ve set up permanent residence within Marston Science Library. Either way, I’ve got you covered. But proceed with public napping cautiously because I cannot guarantee you won’t end up on multiple Snapchat stories as the weird drooling girl who is asleep at 2:40 p.m.

The leather chairs at The HubNow it may seem like The Hub is the least opportune place to take a nap considering that, second to Turlington, it probably sees the most traffic of students throughout the day. But fear not — these chairs are really great for napping. Specifically, try to target the chairs that are behind the wall parallel to Starbucks. These chairs are seated in the quietest section of The Hub since the wall acts as a sound barrier. Additionally, since most people are quickly in and out of The Hub, most likely no one will take the time to notice that you are indeed sound asleep in the middle of campus.

Fourth floor of Library WestWell of course this was going to be on the list. The fourth floor of good ol’ Club West is known for its silent atmosphere and heavy coffee aroma due to its highly caffeinated inhabitants who are loaded up on knowledge and Starbucks. While studying for that exam, you can easily nod off in your swivel chair, and no one will even notice your lack of coherence since they’re probably sleeping too.

Plaza of the Americas: ENO EditionPicture yourself swaying in the wind, the warm breeze kissing your eyelids shut and the Krishna lunch group beating their drums in the distance. Being one of the most beautiful outdoor hangout spots on campus, it’s no surprise that if you have an ENO or the right quilt, a nap in the plaza is the perfect pick-me-up during a long day. Just don’t nap on your side because catching a glimpse of the motivated students going into Library West might make you feel slightly bad about your sleepy self.

The George T. Harrell Medical Education Building (a.k.a. the newest building by Shands)It’s big, it’s shiny and it has really comfy couches on the first floor. It’s a little out of the way unless you’re by Shands, but it is worth the walk down the super steep hill. It’s always ice cold inside this building, and there’s a little café inside it if you feel like nibbling on a pre-nap muffin. Oh, and it also doesn’t hurt that future cute doctors are walking by all day long!

Eight hours of sleep every night may be ideal, but for most college students it is not always realistic. So in order to put the pedal to the metal for your grades, make sure you always make time to put the head to the bed (or chair) because naps are really important. The bags under your eyes may be designer, but the best makeup is a well-rested face.
