How to Get the Perfect Smoky Eye in Just 5 Steps

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Villanova chapter.

Smoky eyes are the epitome of night-time makeup looks. Yet, they often scare off beginner makeup users due to their tendency to come out looking like a black eye. Here is an easy smoky eye tutorial for every level of makeup experience using NYC Cosmetics City Proof 24 hour eyeshadow sticks.

1.) Start with a fresh base using an eyeshadow primer. I used Urban Decay’s Primer Potion.

2.) Use a taupe shadow or cream shadow all over the lid. I used NYC City Proof 24 hour Shadow Stick in 610 Tribeca Taupe. Once you apply the color, make sure to blend it in.

3.) Next, use a black shadow, cream shadow or cream eyeliner in the outer corner of your eyelid in the shape of a V. I used the NYC City Proof 24 Hour Eyeshadow Stick in 636 New York at Night.

4.) Blend in the black shadow. Then add a transition brown shadow between the black shadow and the taupe shadow to help blend the colors naturally. I used the shadow Whiskey by Urban Decay.

5.) Add a white or cream shadow in the inner corner of the eye and under the eyebrow to add brightness and to blend out the darker colors on the rest of your lid. Then add eyeliner and mascara.

Thank you to NYC Cosmetics for the eyeshadow sticks and to our lovely model! We hope you try this look for yourself!
