Campus Celebrity: Rohan Kapoor

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wilfrid Laurier chapter.

Meet Rohan, the fourth year BBA student who’s defining what it means to be a well rounded Golden Hawk! With Reading Week kicking off, and midterms in full swing Her Campus Laurier was able to sit down and see how Rohan does it all.

Name: Rohan Kapoor

Year: 4

Major: BBA – Finance, Minor in Economics

What’s your favourite thing about being at Laurier?

The ability to see people I know every single day when walking across campus. Since we are such a small-medium sized school, it’s so easy to get involved and meet new people.

Tell us a little bit about what you’re involved in?

Back in first year, I applied to be a Campus Ambassador with Recruitment & Admissions, and was lucky enough to be given a position on the team. As I moved from year to year, I transitioned into increasingly more responsible roles as the Senior Ambassador of Training & Development, and now as the Campus Ambassador Coordinator.

In second year, I was a Volunteer Manager for 5 Days for the Homeless; a campaign designed raise awareness for youth homelessness within the region of Waterloo and beyond. In third year, I followed up with this campaign as one of the Special Events Directors. This year also saw me take on the role of a Club Communications Coordinator within the Students’ Union.

Continuously, I have been involved as an Icebreaker for Orientation Week, and as an Intramural participant!

What inspired you to become involved?

Seeing people around me get involved. Overall, getting involved has just enhanced my university experience, in that it allowed me to diversify rather than to stick exclusively to schoolwork. Although extremely important, academics are only a part of the equation. Being involved gives me that sense of balance and feeling that I am contributing to my university experience in more ways than one.

What’s your favourite pass time outside of school?

Playing a little pickup basketball to work on the jumper and relieve stress.

If you could be any super hero what would you be?

Well all my friends call me Superman.

How has being involved in things such as an ambassador, and being an ice breaker impacted your life here at Laurier?

As an Ambassador, I work with grade 11 and 12 students. As an Icebreaker, I work with first year students. Being able to see both sides of the “high school to university” transition line has really allowed me to understand what students feel on both ends of the spectrum. As a result, I’ve been given the opportunity to see things from a variety of perspectives, which helps me help them transition and develop. This has without a doubt positively impacted my Laurier life.

What do think the future after Laurier holds for you?

In my time here, I’ve developed a liking for both finance and marketing, so I hope to land a role in either of those functional areas, while possibly pursuing further designations.

If you had to pick between being twice as smart or twice as happy, what would you choose?

I don’t have an answer to this so I’ll let Kelso answer for me:

“The sexiest thing in the entire world is being really smart” – Ashton Kutcher

What was your favourite year at Laurier and why?

All 3+ years here have been phenomenal, but if I were to choose just one, I would choose third year by a slight edge. Although it was the most academically demanding thus far, I think it was also where I exhibited the most growth and established the most relationships.

We can’t wait to see what you accomplish next!
