Enter: Gigi Hadid. Some may recognize her attached at the hip of Kendall Jenner, while others may know her from Taylor Swift’s Bad Blood video. Either way, she remains the unstoppable supernova, making her way down the runway at NYFW, onto the cover’s of national magazine’s, and now into the heart’s of anyone who’s ever been told they need to look a certain way. After killing it at NYFW, online comments came at her like daggers, telling her that her body was too big for high fashion.
Hadid vocalized a response with this letter on her Instagram – shutting down any doubt that on the runway was where she belonged, just the way she is.
Hadid highlights important parts of her internal monologue, making it clear that it was her body, her life, and nobody’s business but her own. She writes, “I’m a hard worker that’s confident in myself, one that came at a time where the fashion industry was ready for a change.” She reminds us that this is 2015, and that, just like life, fashion is a constantly moving industry, one that is always changing and adapting.
She’s setting an example of diversity and self-love, and is taking a stand for girls who have may not have the “traditional” look, but instead have curves and sex appeal.
Finally, she closes the letter by mentioning the change that is “undeniably” and inevitably upon us. She’s strong-willed, sexy, and she’s here to stay.
