Homecoming King Candidate Ansh Kumar

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVU chapter.

Meet Ansh Kumar from Charleston, WV where he attended George Washington High School. He knew from a young age that he was destined to be a Mountaineer. He is a sports enthusiast. Ansh loves to play recreational basketball, golf, and ski. He was heavily involved in Greek life throughout his college career. Last year Ansh was the Vice President of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and the President of the Inter-Fraternity Council. He has been very involved with the Student Government Association and he served as a Governor on the board last year. He is also a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the American Association of Drilling Engineers chapters here at WVU. SPE and AADE will be sponsoring his campaign for Homecoming.

Q: What made you want to run for Homecoming King or Queen?

I decided to run for Homecoming King because I believe I have embodied the Mountaineer spirit. Which to me is being neighborly and kind. I have done a lot of work through SGA and IFC in my four years here and being an engineer made me feel like I had the right support to run for king.

Q: Why do you think you would be a good King or Queen and why do you deserve this title?

I have bled gold and blue my entire life. I was an avid fan of the Mountaineers growing up and have served the student body in multiple ways through my college career. From working underground in the mines of Boone County, to producing natural gas in Dodridge County, I have honestly experienced West Virginia to its fullest. All though I may not look the part, I’m as West Virginian as it gets and I have the heart of a Mountaineer. That is why I believe I am a strong candidate to be the next Homecoming King.

Q: What does WVU mean to you?

WVU means home.

Q: What would it mean to you if you were named the 2015 Homecoming King or Queen?

I would be honored to represent my family, friends, and school in a positive manner.

Q: What are your connections to the state of West Virginia?

I was born and raised in Charleston, throughout my life I traveled the state for different sporting events. Once I came to WVU I decided I wanted to get into the Energy business. Since then I have worked in the coal business, now I trying to get into the natural gas business and work locally in the Marcellus shale located in north west WV.

Q: If you had one message for the students of WVU, what would that message be?\

I would encourage students to have as much fun as possible, but also to get involved in some sort of organization at WVU to make the most of their time here.

I grew up in Charleston, West Virginia. Growing up here I knew there was a possibility of going to West Virginia University my entire life. Although I decided to start my college career at the University of Kentucky, those country roads led me back to WVU in the spring of my sophomore year. This was also the point when I decided to establish myself as a Broadcast Journalist student. Since this point I have strived to become the best possible journalist I can be. I am currently working as a weekend reporter for WDTV-Channel 5 in Clarksburg, West Virginia. Prior to receiving this position, I worked as an intern with WCHS-tv/FOX11, in the summer of 2014, where I learned critical editing, interviewing, writing, and speaking skills. I worked closely with anchors, reporters, editors, directors, producers, and even the web team. Aside from the television industry, I am the Campus Correspondent for the West Virginia University Chapter of the online entertainment magazine, Her Campus. Another position I currently hold is the Social Media Chair of WVU’s Radio Television Digital News Association Chapter. In the Fall of 2012, I became a sister of the Alpha Phi Fraternity, in which I held the position of ‘Big Sister Chairman.’ My other passions include horse back riding, scuba diving, being outdoors, and running. I am very adventurous and I try to stay well rounded. My goal in life is to live life to the fullest and be the best possible version of myself. My ultimate goal would be to earn a spot as a reporter/anchor for Fox News, New York. I plan to graduate in December of 2016 and look forward to my future.
