What are you involved in around grounds?
I’ve loved all of my opportunities at U.Va. and am passionate about working to build community so most of my activities are centered around civic engagement. My current involvements include: Student Council, Best Buddies, Sustained Dialogue, Student Ambassadors, Green Dot, Flash Seminars, and Campus Kitchens. I am doing research through a Charlottesville Based Undergraduate Grant, am a RA in Dillard, and am a member of Kappa Delta Sorority.
Why are you involved with this/these organization(s)? How do they add to your experience at UVA?
I’m really passionate about community engagement so I tend to be involved with things that allow me to help other students and activities that connect me with the greater Charlottesville community. On Student Council I serve on the Outreach Committee the Community Affairs Committee, and I am also the Liaison to the City Council, with the ultimate goal of helping U.Va. students engage more beyond what can sometimes become an insular community on Grounds. All of my activities have taught me so much about the issues facing our greater community, and I have also learned so much about working with different groups of people in the process. The organizations I have been lucky enough to be affiliated with have contributed to the greater sense of community I feel at U.Va. and am so thrilled I go to a school where these opportunities to find meaning in extracurricular experiences are endless.
What is one of your favorite things to do around Charlottesville?
I absolutely love the Farmer’s Market! This year I took my residents and it was so much fun to get to share that part of our community with them. Really anything involving food is wonderful so I am certainly taking advantage of the highest number of restaurants per capita.
What is your favorite UVA tradition?
Lighting of the Lawn! I also love every opportunity to sing the Good Old Song so maybe more specifically the end of lighting of the Lawn when we all get together and sing the Good Old Song. In that moment it’s so hard not to feel the incredible amount of love in our community.
Something people don’t know about you?
I started working at a family friend’s restaurant when I was 12 and developed a love for cooking and baking in the process.
