The Hunter boots have been broken out, the pumpkin spice lattes are back on the menu, and the leaves have begun to drift to the ground: it is officially Fall in the Forest. While fall is one of my absolute favorite parts of the year, it can bring along some serious beauty struggles.
To start, the falling temperatures can bring on dry skin, fading summer tans, and the frizziest of hair as a result of Carolina’s constant mist. But fear not, my fellow collegiettes, because with a few simple changes to your beauty routine, you can enjoy sweaters, bonfires, and pumpkin pie without worry and looking flawless.
To battle the dry skin, moisturizer is a necessity. I personally like to go with a lighter blend specifically meant for your face (so that it doesn’t clog your pores) that also contains sunscreen. Even when it’s cloudy outside, it is important to protect your skin from dangerous UV rays. Simply throwing on a light coat of moisturizer under your daily foundation can do wonders for your skin. In addition, drinking plenty of water is essential. Not only is it good for your body to stay hydrated, but it also hydrates your skin from the inside out.
As your summer tan fades, it may be tempting to run to the tanning salon to maintain your golden glow, but I would not advocate this route, as it can have dangerous repercussions on your skin’s health in the future, while providing only temporary satisfaction. My personal mantra is: embrace the pale! This transition may mean changing up your foundation to a lighter tone that matches your skin’s natural habits, but ultimately, it will be more flattering and will give you a more natural appearance. It is already October, and absolutely no one is going to expect you to look like you just came back from a tropical vacation in the Bahamas. To subtly bring some color in though, I love to experiment with different blushes and bronzers to bring out some warmth in your lighter tones.Â
Lastly, the issue of hair can be one of the hardest to universally conquer, as each person’s hair is unique and will react differently to the change in weather. For those struggling with the increased rain and humidity, straightening serums can be your best friend when used in moderation, as they lock in moisture and style. As the temperatures drop, the weather can dry out and deflate your once voluminous locks. Especially at this time of year, it is important to regularly condition your hair, as well as apply heat protectant sprays or sealants prior to using heated tools as a way to minimize the loss of moisture.
So there you have it, collegiettes! You are fully prepared to experience all that Fall in the Forest has to offer while looking your best!
