October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) evolved from the “Day of Unity” held in October 1981 and conceived by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The intent was to connect advocates across the nation who were working to end violence against women and their children. The Domestic Violence Awareness color is purple and National Domestic Violence Month is recognized in October.
In order to show advocacy of this month, D.I.M.E.S is putting together a fashion show centered around the color purple. The show will be held on October 1st in the Williams Center starting at 6:30pm. Clothing, canned goods, and monetary donations will be collected and donated to Safe Haven in Statesboro.
