Leaving home for college is an always an exciting time, no matter what year you are. Sure, you’ll miss your family and your friends from home, but we all know who you’ll miss the most… your dog!
And no, leaving them each year never gets easier.
Stage 1: Denial
You try not to think of it, putting away the idea that you’re not going to see your furry best friend every day because it is too much to bear at the moment. Anyone that mentions how much your going to miss your dog, you pretend you don’t hear.
Stage 2: Realization
It hits you. You’re going to miss your pooch so much and there’s nothing you can do about it.
Stage 3: Anger
Why can’t you just take him with you?! Your family won’t miss him THAT much. He likes YOU the best anyway, this isn’t fair!!
Stage 4: Paranoia
What if he starts to like your parents more than he likes you?? Or worse… your siblings..
Stage 5: Bargaining
I mean, if you maintain a 4.0, maybe the dorms will let you bring your pup! Maybe your parents will let you take him, right??
Stage 6: Depression
Life just isn’t the same. You miss your dog too much to go on.
Stage 7: Acceptance
You realize you’re having fun, making new (furless) friends at college, and you know your puppy is comfortable and taken care of back at home.
Stage 8: THANKSGIVING BREAK
IT’S ABOUT TIME. You reunite with your perfect pet and it’s everything you hoped it would be.
Even though Thanksgiving break isn’t as long as you’d like, it’s still enough snuggling time to hold you over until your next reunion, which will be just as sweet as the one before. Just remember that absence makes the heart grow fonder.. even if it is a puppy heart!
