If you’ve already rushed or are thinking of joining a sorority, you know or should know that when Formal Recruitment arrives your mind is racing with questions. Which house is which? How much time should you spend in each house? Who should you talk to when you walk into the living room? Thankfully, your Rho Gammas are there to listen to your concerns and answer all your questions. They will even let you vent about how stressed you are this week, too. During recruitment week, your Rho Gammas have your back, here’s how:
1. They sacrificed their letters for you.The Rho Gammas that will accompany you during this week had to temporarily disaffiliate from their chapter at the end of spring term. This means that they couldn’t go to any party, chapter meetings, social gatherings, or anything that involves their house or wearing their letters. They do it so you can talk to them without bias and you can make a decision that’s all your own. Now, that’s love.
2. You can call them about an outfit crisis.If you want to make a good impression when you walk into a house, you know that your outfit should be on point. It is kind of hard to know what is appropriate for each day and how to wow your future sisters. If you have an outfit crisis, your Rho Gammas will be there to assist you and help you decide between that cute mini skirt or those amazing animal print pants.
3. They act like your shrink during recruitment.They will listen to your rants about choosing a house and help you decide your top three chapters. They will hear you out and be unbiased, even if you’re telling them you hate the house they belong to. They are also the only people you should seek advice from during rush week, since talking to your friends might sway your opinion and you don’t want that.
4. They prove to you that stereotypes can be wrong.You probably have heard that sorority girls are superficial airheads, but that is just a stereotype and it is far from the truth. Not only do your Rho Gammas prove that myth to be false by being caring and smart, but they also remind you not to label others. It is easy to pass judgment, especially by generalizing and grouping together girls from certain sororities. When you finally learn which sorority your Rho Gamma belongs to, you realize that the things you thought of each house aren’t entirely true.
5. You are important to them even if you are not part of their sorority.Rho Gammas will help any potential new member (or PNM) even if she is not leaning towards joining their own sorority. Your happiness is one of their top priorities—they want you to find your home away from home and connect with the sisters. After all, Greek life is about sisterhood no matter the letters you wear.
